From the Porch: 3 in a row

May 14, 2012

Giants 3, Rockies 2 at AT&T Park

CO (13-21): 000 100 001  2 5 1
SF (18-17): 000 001 02x  3 10 1

WP: Romo (2-0)
LP: Brothers (1-2)
SV: Casilla (8)
HR: CO: Rosario (5); SF: Blanco (1)

Friedrich: 7ip 6h 1er 10k 1bb 1.38era
Vogelsong: 7ip 3h 1er 3k 5bb 2.66era

In the NL West: LA beat AZ of course; SD lost to, ummm, somebody, so Giants still in second, 6 games back.

Comments: Pitching battle tonight between Vogelsong and Friedrich, only the latter's second big-league game. He was remarkable, 10 strikeouts, only one earned run. Vogelsong not as sharp, battling his way out of trouble (five walks, ouch, tons of 3-2 counts), but he got the job done, keeping it close while awaiting the Giants offense to show up.

Defense: Whew! Error in the top of the 9th by Arias at third almost cost SF the game. Posey greased Marco Scutaro on a steal attempt right off the bat in the first, love watching him do that.

Offense: First homer for SF by Gregor Blanco, who had three hits; he's in the lineup until he wrests himself out of it. Easier to spell than Schierholtz anyway. Pill and Posey had key RBIs to take a 3-1 lead in the eighth.

Injury notes: The real Giants bloggers inform us that Freddy Sanchez had another setback in his attempt to rehab himself back into the big leagues. This time he tweaked his back.

Personal beef: The field at AT&T again looks like hell. It's the worst-looking turf in the Major Leagues anyway (feed it, FEED it) and every year they have some early season concert where the stage destroys a major amount of the grass in a weird geometric pattern, and it pretty much never recovers.

Next game: Rockies vs. Giants at AT&T, 7:15 p.m. PDT Tuesday, May 15. Guthrie (2-1) vs. Lincecum (2-3). TV: CSN-BA

I just knew you could find SOMETHING to bitch about if the giants kept winning. The condition of the field?? Really? You crack me up!!!

I keep wondering if the Giants have an income problem (with 100 straight sell-outs?) so they stage these events. Really don't like that weird college football bowl game they play there, either. Maybe everybody else does this, too, but just has a better climate to help the field recover?

I think everyone else just spray paints the grass green. :-)

Angel Pagan made a weird error in tonight's game, charging in toward the infield. Can I blame that on the weird smashed grass? Please?
